What Is Monkey Mart?
Monkey Mart is a free online idle supermarket game created by TinyDobbins. You play as a monkey who builds a supermarket from scratch — starting with a single banana section and no staff, and working your way up to a fully automated store with six product sections and a team of helper monkeys running everything.
The game became one of the most popular browser games in schools and offices worldwide because it hits a rare sweet spot: it's simple enough to understand in 30 seconds, but deep enough to keep you engaged for hours. The progression from manually doing everything to watching your automated store run itself is genuinely satisfying in a way that few browser games achieve.
It was originally published on Poki and CrazyGames, where it accumulated millions of plays. MonkeyMartHub is a dedicated fan site that hosts the game alongside guides, tips, and walkthroughs — everything you need to play it well, all in one place.
Your First Five Minutes Online
The first time you open Monkey Mart, you're dropped into a small supermarket with one section: bananas. No tutorial, no lengthy intro — just your monkey standing in the store. Here's what to do:
Walk to the banana crop area at the back of the store. Your monkey automatically picks up bananas when you walk over the plants. Then walk to the banana shelf and your monkey stocks it automatically. Customers will start arriving almost immediately — walk to the checkout counter and process their purchases by standing near it.
That's the entire core loop: harvest → stock → checkout. Everything else in the game is built on top of this loop. The goal is to automate it so you don't have to do it manually anymore — and that's where the real game begins.
Controls — Desktop and Mobile
Monkey Mart has simple controls that work well on every platform:
- Desktop / Laptop: WASD or arrow keys to move your monkey. No mouse needed during gameplay.
- Chromebook: Same as desktop — WASD or arrow keys. Works perfectly on school-issued Chromebooks.
- Mobile (iOS / Android): On-screen joystick in the bottom-left corner. Tap and drag to move your monkey. All interactions (harvesting, stocking, checkout) happen automatically when you walk to the right spot.
- Tablet: Same as mobile — on-screen joystick. The larger screen makes it easier to see the whole store at once.
The Six Sections — What You're Building Toward
Monkey Mart has six product sections that you unlock progressively. Each new section brings in a new customer type, raises your income ceiling, and adds a new visual element to your store. Here's the full list in unlock order:
- 🍌 Banana — Starting section. Fast harvest, high volume. The foundation of your early income.
- 🌽 Corn — First unlock. Medium speed, medium value. Doubles your customer variety.
- 🥛 Dairy — Mid-game. Higher value per item. The point where income starts feeling serious.
- 🥚 Egg — Fast harvest, medium-high value. Empties quickly — assign a helper as soon as possible.
- 🍫 Chocolate — Slow harvest, high value. The most helper-dependent section in the game.
- 🍦 Ice Cream — The premium section. Highest value per item. Unlocking this is the late-game milestone.
For a deep dive into each section's mechanics and strategy, see the Monkey Mart Sections Guide.
The One Thing New Players Get Wrong
The most common mistake new players make is spending their first coins on the wrong upgrade. Checkout speed and carry capacity are tempting because they're cheap and feel impactful. But the correct first purchase — by a significant margin — is your first helper monkey, assigned to the banana section.
A helper monkey automates an entire section. Once you have one on bananas, your income becomes consistent and your main monkey is free to do other things. This single purchase transforms the game from a manual grind into the idle experience it's designed to be. Everything else follows from there.
For the complete upgrade order with reasoning for every step, see the Monkey Mart Upgrade Guide.
Does Monkey Mart Work Offline?
Monkey Mart requires an internet connection to load — it's a browser game that streams from a server, not a locally installed app. However, once the game is loaded in your browser, it can continue running even if your connection drops temporarily. Your progress is saved locally in your browser's storage, so a brief connection interruption won't lose your game.
If you want to play without an internet connection, you'd need to download the game files locally — which isn't officially supported. For most players, the browser version is the intended way to play, and it works reliably on any stable internet connection.
