Before You Start: What Monkey Mart Is Actually About
Monkey Mart looks like a simple supermarket game, but it's really a game about automation. Every decision you make should be evaluated by one question: does this get me to a fully automated store faster? The game rewards players who understand this and punishes those who spend coins randomly.
The progression arc is: manual grind → partial automation → full automation → idle collection. This walkthrough guides you through each phase as efficiently as possible.
Stage 1 — The First Five Minutes
What's happening: You start with a single banana section and no helpers. Your main monkey is the only worker in the store.
What to do immediately
Walk your monkey to the banana crop area and harvest bananas. Then carry them to the banana shelf and stock it. Customers will start arriving almost immediately — walk to the checkout and process their purchases. Repeat this loop: harvest → stock → checkout.
This manual loop feels slow, but it's intentional. The game is showing you what life without helpers looks like so you appreciate them when you get them.
Your first goal: save for Helper Monkey #1
Don't spend any coins on anything else. No checkout upgrades, no carry capacity — nothing. Every coin goes toward your first helper monkey. The faster you get it, the faster everything else accelerates. This is the most important financial decision in the entire game.
While you're saving, keep the banana shelf stocked as consistently as possible. Empty shelves mean lost sales, which means slower saving. Stay focused on the loop.
Stage 2 — Getting Your First Helper (Minutes 5–15)
What's happening: You've saved enough for your first helper monkey. This is the turning point of the early game.
Buy the helper and assign it to bananas
Open the upgrade shop and purchase the helper monkey. When prompted to choose a section, select Banana. The helper will immediately start harvesting and stocking bananas on its own. Watch it work for a moment — this is what the rest of the game is about.
What changes after the first helper
Your main monkey is now free. The banana shelf stays stocked without you touching it. You can focus entirely on the checkout counter, which will start to queue up as customer flow increases. This is normal — it means your store is working.
Next purchase: Checkout Speed Level 2
With the banana helper running, your income increases noticeably. Save your next batch of coins for Checkout Speed Level 2. You'll see a queue forming at the checkout — that queue is money you're losing. Upgrading checkout speed eliminates the queue and converts those waiting customers into completed sales.
After buying Checkout Speed Level 2, take a moment to notice how the store feels. Customers arrive, pick up bananas, pay quickly, and leave. The store is running smoothly. This is the foundation everything else builds on.
Stage 3 — Expansion Phase (Minutes 15–60)
What's happening: You have a stable base. Now it's time to grow systematically.
Unlock the Corn Section
Corn is your first expansion. It brings in a new customer type and raises your income ceiling. After unlocking it, your main monkey needs to manually stock corn while the helper covers bananas. This is fine — you're only managing one section manually, which is very doable.
Save for Helper Monkey #2 as quickly as possible and assign it to corn. The moment you do, you'll have two fully automated sections and your main monkey will have almost nothing to do. This is when the idle game aspect really kicks in.
The expansion pattern
From here, the walkthrough follows a repeating pattern for each new section:
- Save coins while your current helpers run the store
- Unlock the next section (Dairy, then Egg, then Chocolate, then Ice Cream)
- Manually stock the new section for a few minutes while saving
- Buy a helper and assign it to the new section
- Check checkout speed — if there's a queue, upgrade it before the next section unlock
- Repeat
This pattern is simple but powerful. Each iteration raises your income ceiling and adds another automated worker. The store grows faster with each cycle because you have more income to fund the next expansion.
Section-by-section notes
Dairy: Higher value per item than corn. The income jump when you unlock dairy is noticeable. Assign a helper here as soon as possible — dairy customers spend more, so keeping this shelf stocked is high priority.
Egg: Fast harvest speed means the shelf empties quickly. Without a helper, you'll find yourself constantly running back to restock. This section benefits enormously from automation — the helper's fast harvest cycle keeps the shelf full without any effort.
Chocolate: Slow harvest speed, high value. The slow harvest makes this the most tedious section to stock manually. Assign a helper here as soon as you can — the slow harvest cycle is exactly what helpers are designed to handle.
Ice Cream: The premium section. Highest value per item in the game. Unlocking this is the late-game milestone. Assign your final helper here and you've completed the main progression arc.
When to upgrade checkout speed
Upgrade checkout speed whenever you see a persistent queue forming — meaning customers are waiting more than a second or two. Don't upgrade it on a schedule; upgrade it reactively when the queue appears. With 3+ sections running, you'll likely need Checkout Speed Level 3 around the time you unlock Dairy or Egg.
Stage 4 — Full Automation (Hour 1+)
What's happening: All 6 sections are unlocked. All 6 helpers are assigned. Your store runs itself.
What full automation looks like
With all helpers assigned, your main monkey has nothing mandatory to do. Customers arrive, helpers keep shelves stocked, the checkout processes purchases, and coins accumulate automatically. You can close the browser tab and come back an hour later to a pile of coins.
This is the endgame state of Monkey Mart. The game doesn't end here — it transitions into a pure idle experience where you check in periodically to collect coins and buy incremental upgrades.
What to do after full automation
The remaining upgrades at this point are incremental: additional checkout speed levels and carry capacity upgrades. Buy them in whatever order you like — they're all minor improvements at this stage. None of them will dramatically change how the store feels.
Many players, after reaching full automation in the base game, move on to Monkey Mart 2, which offers a fresh progression loop with new sections, new mechanics, and a larger store layout. If you enjoyed the progression arc of the first game, Monkey Mart 2 is the natural next step.
